Piranesi once again was a star of the show at the AIA's annual National Convention and Design Exposition, held this year at the Boston Conference and Convention Centre, from 15th-17th May.
Informatix's booth was centrally located within the Software Pavillion and for two and a half days saw a non-stop procession of prospective customers, all eager to see Piranesi's capabilities. Staffed by Technical Director Brian Woodward and Marketing Manager Jeremy Jones, the Informatix booth also welcomed one of Piranesi's key distributors, Susan Sorger of Entourage Arts, who not only assisted with demonstrating Piranesi to the gathered throng, but was on-hand to promote her collections of non-photorealistic entourage, which are now available to purchase through the Piranesi website. |

Even though the booth was small, it was constantly surrounded by interested parties, keen to witness the range of demonstration images being generated. Several hundred people registered for more information and took away demonstration copies of Piranesi v5, and frequently the booth visitors were three-deep into the aisles to watch the presentations. One visitor to the booth, a professional supplier of high-end visualisations to architectural clients across North America, announced that Piranesi was 'the coolest thing I've seen at the show this year'. Demos on the big screen continued from the very first minute of the show and were even going on at 2pm on the Saturday, as booths were being dismantled all around, such was the level of interest. In the grand surroundings of the Great Hall of the Faculty of Architecture at Federico II University in Naples, Italian Distributor VideoCOM demonstrated Piranesi's powerful 3D painting and visualisation techniques to an audience of nearly 100 architecture students.
The Great Hall is the venue for the students' final examinations, but the atmosphere was much more relaxed when Pier Luigi Antonini of VideoCOM gave a product demonstration of Piranesi to the assembled audience. Whilst virtually all of the audience were unaware of Piranesi prior to the presentation, all were left hugely impressed by Piranesi's intuitive user interface and ability to produce real-time, high quality images in photorealistic and non-photorealistic styles. Unlike many visualisation tools which require extensive rendering time, Piranesi's instant feedback makes generating images far faster. Its extensive range of creative tools, much more akin to a traditional painting application, combined with the 3D capabilities reminiscent of a modeller, have led Piranesi to be described by users as a whole new 'art medium' rather than just a visualisation tool.
