Getting Started

A plain model is exported from SketchUp™ then we render the scene in Piranesi, making full use of the new layer options to prepare artistic views for day and night.

Layers

3D Stereo Images

Create a 3D image from your Piranesi drawing to add a wow factor to your client presentations. We show you how to make 3D anaglyph images and you can see for yourself with red/cyan 3D glasses.

Creating a Glass Layer

See how to use Piranesi layers to represent glass in your model. Paint on the glass and behind it.

Painting Effects

Piranesi can produce a vast range of painting effects that can be combined into stunning visualizations. We're often asked "how did you do that?" - here's how.

Locks

Locks are fundamental to Piranesi and are one of the big reasons why Piranesi is such a popular tool for creating artist's impressions.

Using locks, you can restrict your painting actions to particular materials or 3D planes, without defining a mask first. This dramatically reduces the time it takes to paint up your image with colours and textures.

Cutouts

Using Piranesi you can quickly add people, trees and plants (cutouts) to your scene.

Piranesi uses the depths from your original model to apply perspective, masking, and even shadows, to the cutouts you place. As you move the cutout around the screen before placement, it scales dynamically to match its position.

Styles

The Style Manager lets you create an effect, then save the settings to use again later. You can store preset styles together and apply the same effect to each of your illustrations.

Piranesi ships with a huge range of ready-made brushes, filters, raster files, multifills and effects, and you can add your own.

Surface Textures

Add brickwork, paving lines, weatherboarding textures, stipple grains, and more, using the extensive range of raster textures and grains that ship with Piranesi.

This video shows you how to use these raster files to add textures to the surfaces in your scene, tweaking and blending as necessary until the desired effect is achieved.

Night Scenes

Piranesi is an excellent tool to show your clients how their project will look during every season of the year, but for many developments (such as city centre restaurant districts) they'll also want to see what it looks like at night.

This video demonstrates how easy it can be to change day to night with Piranesi, showing how to darken and re-light an image.

3D Cutouts

In addition to the traditional 2D cutouts of people and trees, you can also place 3D models into your scene, and rotate them as needed.

Construct Tool

This video demonstrates the Construct tool, which adds depths and materials while painting. It is commonly used to add walls, railings, hedges, fences etc, and to enhance 2D images so more locking options can be used.
