USING PIRANESI LOCKS
Using Piranesi Locks
Locks are fundamental to Piranesi and are one of the big reasons why Piranesi is such a popular tool for creating artist's impressions.

Using locks, you can restrict your painting actions to particular materials or 3D planes, without the need to define masks. This dramatically reduces the time it takes to paint up your image with colours, raster textures or images.

We also have a quick guide to Piranesi locks:

USING CUTOUTS
Using Cutouts
Using Piranesi you can quickly add "cutouts" - such as people, trees and plants - to a scene. Piranesi's 'memory' of the depth information from your original model allows perspective, masking, and even shadows to all be automatically applied to the cutouts you place.

As the cutout is moved around the screen prior to placement, see how it scales dynamically to its surroundings.

USING STYLES
Using Styles
The Style Manager enables you to develop an effect, then save all the relevant tool settings for future reuse. Storing all your preset styles together makes it quicker and simpler to replicate a 'corporate style' for each of your illustrations.

Piranesi ships with a huge range of ready-made brushes, filters, rasters, multifills and effects, all of which you can summon via the Style Manager.

SURFACE TEXTURES
Surface Textures
Adding brickwork, paving lines, weatherboarding textures, stipple grains etc are all simple using the extensive range of raster textures and grains that ship with Piranesi.

This video shows you how to use these raster files to add textures to the surfaces in your scene, tweaking and blending as necessary until the desired effect is achieved.

PAINTING EFFECTS
Painting Effects
Piranesi can produce a vast range of painting effects - which can be combined into stunning visualizations. Many of the images shown throughout this site have benefited from Piranesi's completely configurable effects tools.

We're often asked "how did you do that?" - this video will provide a few of the answers...

NIGHT SCENES
Night Scenes
Piranesi is an excellent tool to show your clients how their project will look during every season of the year, but for many developments (such as city centre restaurant districts) they'll also want to see what it looks like at night.

This video shows how easy it can be to change day to night with Piranesi, showing how to darken and re-light an image.

3D CUTOUTS
3D cutouts
In addition to the traditional 2D cutouts of people, trees, plants, cars etc, Piranesi will also allow you to place 3D cutouts into your scene, and rotate them according to your needs. This video shows you how to place 3D models directly into your scene (3DS, SketchUp, MicroGDS, and DXF formats are supported).

USING THE CONSTRUCT TOOL
Using the Construct Tool

This video tutorial demonstrates the extensive capabilities of the Construct tool, including the painting in of planar scenery elements to your image (walls, railings, hedges, fences etc), plus the ability to assign material and depth definitions to enclosed-line plain areas within 2D imagery (for example scanned pencil sketches) to allow subsequent painting in Piranesi.
